This project is based around the concept of collaboration and fostering creative community. The aim was to produce a body of work that was not defined by a single genre and had collaboration at its core.

The reason I chose to undertake a collaborative project was to extend and grow our musical community that exists within Wellington. Through creating meaningful work that showcases many creative’s talents, we all have the chance to grow together as a community through shared successes.

Live performance of my 4 track EP is a self-analysis of social expectations, human vulnerabilities and emotive differences. It is my observation, without any sugar coating. This music documents my life with lyrical content exploring themes such as mindfulness, beauty, resilience and time.

I want to empower others to be their better self and to embrace positivity. We need to enjoy being human, to recognise and accept our best and not so wonderful selves, to help cope and face the stress and adversity in our daily journey. By being aware of the pressures that society places on us we can be real, enjoy what we have and allow ourselves to be happy.

This EP is my honest and raw offering to my audience, a human quality that sometimes gets lost within our commercial world. Music balances me and feeds my soul. I hope it will have a similar effect on those who listen.

Performing on Stage 1 at 7.20pm

Adam McDonald - sound engineer
Kate Wilson - Light engineer

Founded in late 2016, Pale Lady consists of four rock fanatics who found themselves in the same music degree. Since then, it has been non stop writing and gigging to bring something new to Rock n Roll.

Their music is diverse, with influences both from old school classics and modern rock. Pale Lady’s sound is characterised by the layered elements and high energy. At a show you can expect to hear catchy vocal melodies, heavy riffs and guitar solos a plenty.

Since winning the 2017 National Battle Of The Bands, the band has been working towards upcoming releases. They will bring out new music over the course of 2018, and plan to showcase this on their upcoming tour.

Is a rapper and RnB inspired singer from the south-side of Wellington. He is in the process of releasing a new project titled "If All Else Fails" set to release this month.

The EP itself is a musical reflection of his identity in the musical landscape of New Zealand music. It is themed around love, social anxieties, and pain. The project consists of a mix of different genres, fusing Rap, RnB and Electronica.

Levitate is an EP and music performance created under the name Goodnight My Darling. Thematically, this body of work explores death and dying, which is a commonly taboo topic within New Zealand and western culture. I have sought to research why this is, and created songs with this theme in mind. These narratives draw from personal experience.

The sampling from the late Blossom Dearie, a great jazz singer and pianist from the era, is intended to bring forward someone passed, regenerating life through their music.

Luke Anthony and Dara Copeland

Performing on Stage 1 at 8.55pm

Troy Ward - Sound engineer
Josh Carlier - Visual design

An immersive collaboration between Music students, Luke Anthony and Dara Copeland, with visual components from Fine Arts student, Josh Carlier.

The project was undertaken as a form of therapy and reflection. Luke experienced an episode of extreme disassociation last year, which later led to a breakdown. He returned this year with a new motivation to process this experience. This project is the conversation in the aftermath. The conversation is focused on the balance of chaos and order in our lives, and the dissonance one confronts daily. For the last months, we have been engaged in an ongoing dialogue, one which we have captured and immersed ourselves within. We invite you to join us.

TYRUN

Performing on Stage 2 at 9.15pm

B.O.Y., the debut EP and live performance of singer-songwriter TYRUN, that tells the story of a young man as he experiences an unassuming love turning bad. Revolving around three contrasting singles, this project uses conceptual differences in its visual and audio representation to portray each part of the narrative.

B.O.Y. is an engrossing journey that considers every word, number, image and video, as a piece of the puzzle. TYRUN has crafted B.O.Y. from the writing, to its conception, and the overall executive production, to entice followers to feel something. Whether that feeling is admiration and happiness, or anger and disgust, matters less than the engagement with this work on an emotional level. Telling his story through B.O.Y., TYRUN puts judgment, discrimination, social expectations and gay relationships at the forefront of his work.
