Fashion can offer women liberation from what can often be a very negative set of messages around sexuality, appearance and self assertion, policed by a heavily moralistic language circulating throughout the world. Threads is a photographic series that explores how women use fashion to shape and create their own identity. Rather than critique fashion, Threads uses photography as a mode of empowerment to celebrate fashion and display how fashion can be used as an external expression of one's internal feelings. By allowing women to express themselves freely through their clothing, this series enables narratives to emerge that re position ideas surrounding the importance of clothing.
