Piggyback is a parasitic-like structure that can attach to the side of buildings to provide an alternative solution to the lack of quality and affordable student accommodation within Wellington. In the past five years, the average rent price has increased while the quality of living for students has decreased. Poor insulation, lack of sunlight and a damp atmosphere are common issues in many students flats today. This spatial design showcases how the combination of parasitic and minimalistic living takes advantage of unused spaces in the city, offers a solution to lack of viable flats, presents affordable living with quality atmosphere. The design features a 10 square metre unit suitable for 1 person or a couple where living space, storage and services are intertwined and compressed to optimise a minimum volume and spatial envelope.
